Paul is recognised as one of Wales’ most successful entrepreneurs. In 1991, Paul founded Motaquote Insurance at the age of 23. The business became Wales’ largest Independent Insurance Broker, completing over 17 acquisitions. Paul went onto to sell the business in 2008 for 10 x EBITDA, to a prominent VC in London.
Between 2009-2013, Paul focussed on giving back, and worked with many companies across a variety of sectors in various capacities, Non-Exec Chairman, NED and Business Consultant. Support focussed on improving corporate governance in readiness for future fundraising, acquisition’s and enhancing equity value for exit.
Paul also spent several years on the Welsh business circuit, speaking publicly at events which included local Universities, Welsh Government and business networking events.
A charismatic and dynamic business leader, Paul appeared in two episodes of the hit Channel 4 series, Secret Millionaire in 2010/2011, and also worked as Chairman in support of a number of charitable organisations such as the Variety Club for Wales and the Devils Community Foundation, where he experienced his first senior role in sport,
Paul became the sole owner of a professional Ice Hockey club, namely the Cardiff Devils in 2010, and sold the club in 2014 to a Canadian consortium. Following this, Paul was headhunted to become the new Chairman Pontypridd United in 2021 and led the club to winning promotion to the Welsh Premiership for the first time in the club’s history.
Paul’s most prominent business journey started with a small acquisition in 2008 of a Taxi Business in Bridgend, namely Radio Cabs, and in 2013 co-founded the UK’s leading Taxi consolidator Veezu. As CEO, Paul led a team which sourced both bank and debt funding and went on for several years to complete many acquisitions UK wide.
More recently in 2020, Paul acquired the rights to a music festival in Swansea, namely Escape. He headhunted Adam Gore & Mark Hopkins with event experience and agreed a JV. This saw the birth of Escape Records, now famous for the largest Welsh Music Festival namely “In It Together Festival” held each year In Margam Park having boasted many notable acts such as The Cure, Sugababes, James Bay, Noel Gallagher, and in 2025 Becky Hill and the Kaiser Chiefs to name a few. Today, the business is led by CEO Adam Gore, and Paul continues to support the Board from both an advisory and investment perspective.
Looking forward, Paul remains open to working with ambitious budding entrepreneurs who are keen to grow their business throughout Wales and the UK.
